Let’s Rebuild Our Future
With Bold Solutions

Meet Davante

Davante Lewis is a lifelong Louisiana resident who’s dedicated his life to bringing real solutions to Louisiana’s working families. Raised by his single mother alongside three sisters, Davante knows firsthand what it’s like for a family to struggle to keep their house cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

That’s why he got to work passing legislation to raise the minimum wage, stop predatory payday lending, and protect student loan borrowers with the Louisiana Budget Project. Now, Davante wants to bring those bold, new solutions to Louisiana’s utility system and make our basic necessities affordable, reliable and just.

For too long the Public Service Commission has been asleep behind the wheel while billion-dollar utility companies, like Entergy, set the course for our future. They’ve stuck us with not only soaring bills, but an energy infrastructure grid that can’t weather the storms.

Now is the time to rebuild our utility system for the future. Davante has the bold, new solutions needed to ensure clean air, clean water, and affordable energy for all Louisianans.

Davante’s Solutions

Our electrical grid is crumbling. It depends on outdated infrastructure and dirty, volatile energy sources, leaving ratepayers in the dark and footing the bill when storms like Hurricane Ida strike. As Public Service Commissioner for District 3, I will push for utilities to speed up adoption of clean, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind and promote adoption of rooftop solar and home batteries across the state. These technologies will reduce pollution, improve public health, and cut costs for ratepayers.

Clean Up the Grid

Corporations currently enjoy free rein to funnel massive profits to their shareholders while shutting off power, water or gas to ordinary Louisianans who can’t afford their bills. As a state, we can agree that the basic needs of our most vulnerable residents should come before the interests of out of state investors. As a Public Service Commissioner, I will work to enforce a Ratepayers’ Bill of Rights to end service disconnections, provide a fixed billing system for senior citizens, ban excessive late fees and strengthen the cap on the maximum profit that investor owned utilities companies can extract from their customers.

Protect Ratepayer’s Rights

For too long, utilities like Entergy have used their monopoly power to generate record profits without making the necessary investments in hardening and updating our grid and power generation infrastructure. The Public Service Commission should be holding them accountable, but the utilities use campaign contributions to buy their way out of regulation. As a candidate, I refuse to accept donations from industries regulated by the PSC, and as a Commissioner, I will fight for new ethics rules to break the grip of corporate donors and push the Commission to begin serving the people of Louisiana instead.

Tackle corruption

Without bringing an end to carbon emissions by 2030, sea level rise and extreme weather will make it impossible for many Louisianans to stay in the communities we call home. By investing in creating new, high-paying green energy jobs, we can reduce these threats and build a brighter future for the next generation. As a Public Service Commissioner, I will ensure that the PSC takes a leading role in meeting the Louisiana Climate Action Plan's goal of 100% renewable electricity by 2035.
